Westhill Episcopal Church
A
church on the move - serving God at the heart of the
community

WHAT IS THE VISION OF
THE CHURCH?
|
|
 |
It is
summed up in our logo - if you look at the stick -
figure, you will see our IOU vision. The 'I' is the
body, the 'O' is the head and the 'U' is the arms of the
figure. This is the
Vision
God has given us - to be a 3-D church that is moving
In, Out and Up, serving God at the
heart of the community.
The
figure also shows someone lifting hands in praise. This
reflects the vital importance of worship at the heart of
our church.
It is
set against a background of a moving river, which for us
expresses the River of God's Holy Spirit as spoken of in
Ezekiel 47. |
WHO ARE WE?
|
|
We are
an Episcopal Church who meet on Sundays in the Ashdale
Hall to worship the living God. We have an informal
style of worship.
We use
the Trinity church building on Sunday mornings for young
people’s work and for other meetings at different times.
We also
meet in smaller groups in different locations at various
times during the week.
Our full
time staff are the Reverend Canon Ian Ferguson, and our
youth pastor Peter Hutchison. |

WHAT’S
ON
(This is
an extract from the Spring edition of the
Inter-Denominational Church Magazine)
Letter from the Rector
Turkeys and Eagles
When storms and difficulties come in your life are you a
Turkey or an Eagle?
There is a
verse in the bible that has brought me great
encouragement, comfort and strength.
“But those who wait on the Lord
will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like
eagles.
They will run and not grow
weary. They will walk and not faint.“
Isaiah 40 v 31.
When a storm comes you will find that turkeys want to
hide. They are scared, they feel alarmed and so they
make for the nearest hide-out they can find hoping that
the storm will pass quickly. Eagles, however, are quite
different. When the storm comes and the wind gets really
strong the eagle sets its face into the storm.
As it does so, it stretches
out its wings and begins to fly above the storm; the
under-currents enable the eagle to rise above
God makes this promise,
‘But those who wait on the Lord
will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like
eagles’
Storms and difficulties will inevitably come our way;
life is full of challenges and difficulties.
You may be going through one
right now. Maybe you are facing some difficult situation
at your work, or in your home, in your marriage or with
your children. Or maybe you have received some bad news
concerning your health.
You may feel like the turkey and want to run and hide
somewhere. But that kind of action usually resolves
little.
You might want to be like the eagle instead, allowing
God to give you the strength to rise above the storm.
It is never easy when you face difficulties and trials
in your life. We all face storms of one kind or another
- it is part of life.
The promise God makes is that he will give us the
ability to rise above the storm.
How we cope with them is
another matter.
For me, knowing that God is there, to help me and give
me the strength I need, is an incredible source of
comfort. For me it is the difference between being a
TURKEY or an EAGLE.
I have nothing against turkeys, but in a storm I think I
would rather be an eagle.
