Police Campaigns

Grampian Police are pleased to announce that the Westhill Service Point based at the Westhill Police Office has appointed Vicky Morris, a full-time member of staff, who will deal with both Grampian Police and Aberdeenshire Council issues in this newly appointed joint role for added community access. This will allow members of the public to seek help and advice in relation to both the organisations including reporting crime, lost and found property reporting, as well as Aberdeenshire Council matters.

The Vehicle Forfeiture Initiative, which operated during the ACPOS Festive Drink Drug Drive Campaign has now become a permanent scheme.

Section 33A of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988, allows the Courts to forfeit vehicles of drivers convicted of certain offences, including drink and drug driving.

The forfeiture scheme allows for the individual's vehicle to be seized by the court upon conviction of a repeat drink or drug driving offence, where a first time offender has a reading at least three times the legal limit or if a person fails to provide a sample without reasonable excuse.

To avoid theft from vehicles, please assure that doors are always locked, even if you live in a area that you feel is 'safe'. Opportunist thefts occur frequently in these circumstances. Make sure that valuables are not left within vehicles, and where possible, try to park the vehicle in a well lit area.

With dark mornings and early evenings still with us, it is advisable that if a domestic property is to be empty for prolonged periods, that a light timer switch is considered to give any perspective criminal the impression that the home is occupied.

Remember, Lights out, you're out!

Also, make sure milk or postal deliveries are taken in by neighbours so that the impression is always given that someone is at home.

Number for Police is 0845 600 5 700 which is our Service Centre number, 999 for emergencies only and Crimestoppers can be called anonymously if required and is free on 0800 555 111.
